REVIEW THE ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR LOCKDOWN BROWSER AND RESPONDUS MONITOR BEFORE BEGINNING THE EXAM.
ACADEMIC HONESTY AND INTEGRITY: You are expected to do your own work. No outside resources may be used on any exam. Cheating on individual assignments or during exams will not be tolerated, and the Vernon College policy for that issue will be followed. Refer to the Vernon College Student Handbook for the complete academic integrity policy. The sanctions for academic dishonesty include but are not limited to:
- A grade of zero on an exam or assignment.
- A grade of “F” in a course.
- Administrative withdrawal from a class with a possible recommendation of disciplinary sanctions.
Examples of behaviors that are considered cheating include but are not limited to:

- Copying and pasting material directly from any source.
- Using a paraphrasing website or software.
- Turning in any work that is not your own.
- Using unauthorized materials or collaboration during exams.
- Obtaining prior test or assignment material from any source other than the instructor.
- Providing any student with assignment or exam material.
- Allowing another student to copy your work.
- Uploading any exam or assignment material to “study help” websites like Chegg or Coursehero.

Any distribution or sharing of assignments will be considered academic dishonesty and will be dealt with accordingly.
RESPONDUS LOCK DOWN BROWSER AND MONITOR:

You will use Respondus Lock Down Browser and Monitor to take your exams securely. The purpose of using Respondus Lock Down Browser is to ensure that no outside resources are used during the exam and no collaboration can take place. It is your responsibility to conduct yourself in a matter that is above reproach when using Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor. Any suspicious activity may be construed as cheating, and will result in a grade of zero for the exam. Respondus Monitor records a video of the entire environment check, pre-exam period and exam. These videos are stored for a period of five years after the exam and may be reviewed at any time.
Directions for using Respondus Lock down Browser and Monitor:
- You must be alone in the room. Any voices heard in the same room are grounds for a grade of zero.
- Your microphone must be on, and no music can be playing in the background.
- Your microphone must be on and functional, but do not read the questions and answers out loud.
- The room must be well-lit, and your entire face and upper body must be visible. Do not turn off facial detection alerts.
- Your computer should be placed on a desk or table, not on a bed or couch.
- The surface of your workspace should be fully cleared of any materials. Your phone should be placed out of the room. Remember that no outside materials are to be used on any exam. That means no textbooks, notes, phones, tablets, or other materials may be anywhere near your workspace.
- You should be seated upright and fully clothed. Behave as if you are in class.
- If you cannot complete the environment check as directed, you will be required to take your exams in-person with the instructor.
- Suspicious eye movements are grounds for receiving a grade of zero. That includes repeatedly looking to either side or above the camera.
- You must face forward toward the camera for the entirety of the exam.
Directions for the environment check:

- Do not move the camera too fast, you must provide a clear video.
- Show a 360-degree view of the room where you will be testing. You must demonstrate that there are no materials hung up on the walls.
- Show all four corners of the room you will be testing in. You must demonstrate that there are no other people in the room with you and no external monitors are being used.
- Show the top of your work surface must be clear with no materials. You must demonstrate that there are no materials on the surface of your work area.
- Show the area under your work surface. You must demonstrate that there are no materials under the table or desk.
- If you are using a computer, such as a laptop, with a built-in camera. You must use a hand mirror to show the edges of your screen and the keyboard. You need to demonstrate that there is nothing taped-to or seated on the keyboard and edges of the screen.
- Count to 5 out loud, or say “Hello” to prove your microphone is functional. You must demonstrate that your microphone is on and functional.
- Other directions may be added as needed. Refer to the exam instructions and contact your instructor if necessary.
Overall, it is your responsibility to behave in a manner that puts you above suspicion. Failure to follow any of these directions may result in assignment of a grade of zero, or necessitate an in-person retake of the exam at the discretion of the instructor. Exam videos may be reviewed at any time during the semester.
