Primary Source Analysis
Online F8A Primary Source Analysis
DIRECTIONS: This is an individual assignment designed to introduce you to primary source analysis. Prior to completing this assignment, you must read “Witch Accusations in Seventeenth-Century New England” from the Bedford Bookshelf. You should also read the history tutorial “Working with Primary Sources,” which is also from the Bedford Bookshelf and will help you understand how to read primary sources critically. Using what you learned, answer the following questions fully.
You must use either Google Docs or OneDrive to complete the assignment, meaning that ALL of your work must take place within the Google Doc or the OneDrive document (I need to be able to see your full edit history). If you do the work somewhere else and then copy and paste it into the Google Doc or OneDrive document, you will receive a zero. In the Google Doc or OneDrive document, simply type your answers to the below questions (please number your answers, but you do not need to copy the question).
Save the document as a Word (.doc or .docx) document, which you will submit on Canvas. In addition to the document file, you must also provide a link to the Google Docs or OneDrive document with your Canvas submission. Prior to submitting the link, you must make me an editor of the document. Please see the instructional video I posted under “Media Gallery” on Canvas for a step-by-step explanation of how to do this. If you do not make me an editor and I am unable to see your edit history, you will receive a zero on the assignment. If you have any questions about these submission guidelines, please reach out to me directly and I will be happy to help.
IMPORTANT: Citations are REQUIRED for this assignment. Each of your answers must be fully cited, or it will receive a zero. Use parenthetical citations with the page number you are referring to. For example, if you use information from page 3 of the primary source document set, you would insert (p. 3) at the end of your answer. If you used page 20 from The American Promise for your answer, your citation should specify that: (The American Promise, p. 20). DO NOT use direct quotes for this assignment—I want you to use your own words. (Note: You use parenthetical citations even when not quoting material. If you use information from a source, you must cite it.)
