NURS-6630N Week 1 Discussion
Post a response answering the following:
- Explain the difference between ion channels and G proteins as they relate to signal transduction and targets of medications.
- How would you answer the following patient question:
- My grandmother has a mental illness. I have the same genes as her. Will I also get the same mental illness?
Note: Your response needs to be supported and validated by three (3) scholarly peer-reviewed resources located outside of your course Learning Resources.
SOLUTION
Ion channels are permeable pathways that are open for a limited period of time and require an activator to open the pathway. The three pathways are voltage-gated, ligand-gated, and other (stretch activation). Ion channels are selective in that they only allow for ions (cations or anions) through particular channels, such as Na+, K+, Ca+, and Cl-. For example, with the prototype nAChR (nicotinic acetylcholine receptor), two ligand molecules have to bind…………email us at examhawk@gmail.com if you need the solution for the above NURS-6630N discussion question.
