Module 1: Collaboration Café (graded)
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes for the MSN-Prepared Advanced Practice Nurse
Collaboration Café
This module focused on the role of knowledge and theoretical underpinnings that shape advanced
nursing practice. In addition, the Chamberlain College of Nursing (CCN) philosophical constructs were
introduced, along with standards for graduate-level nursing practice.
Consider the learning accomplished in this module, and respond to the following:
In your own words, define the four components of the nursing metaparadigm (person, health,
environment, and nursing).
How are the six CCN philosophical constructs reflected within your perspective of the nursing
metaparadigm?
Provide one example of how the nursing metaparadigm can inform your future role in advanced
nursing practice.

The nursing metaparadigm encompasses all that nurses do. It starts with the person, which includes
patients that nurses care for. This is especially important because nurses should be focusing on patient-
centered care which individualizes the plan of care for each patient for best possible outcomes.
The next part is health, which includes multiple layers from the health of the individuals to the health of a
population. It includes primary prevention of health problems, secondary prevention of early care, and
tertiary prevention of preventing more complications. The environment is everything from where a
person lives, the availability of resources, the education and background that can influence how a
person perceives their healthcare. The last part is the nursing aspect.
